I Am WinkleLatest Audio RecordingsChester County Suite by I Am Winkle
Four-song instrumental suite that pays tribute to my wonderful home county, Chester County, PA. Those familiar with the area should recognize the individual song titles as being associated with the county. In the Milky Way by I Am Winkle
A song about the inability to feel like one fits in this crazy world and transcending to joy by becoming one with the universe. You're a Long Gone Woman by Last Stand Blues Band
Remastered 2-29-2022 “This is a fantastic group effort that harkens back to the legendary sounds of the late 60’s group The Electric Flag. The band has achieved a roomy, open sound on the recording thanks to judicious panning and frequency control…. The star of the show is Tony’s fantastic electric lead guitar. Killer tone, and what a performance! In our decades at the helm of this column, we’ve rarely heard a better pure blues combination.” ~ Excerpt from November 2nd, 2020 review in Recording Magazine by Marty Peters. Read the whole review. Who Is "I Am Winkle?"My given name is Mark Ronald Minassian and if you stumbled onto this site, you probably don't know who I am. I was born in May of 1952 in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in the Upper Darby/Lansdowne area that was the wellspring to famous pop rock musicians like Todd Rundgren, Joan Jett, Jim Croce, Robert Hazard, and Keith. For the first half of my life I pursued a music career as a singer-songwriter, that led me to open for many of the top acts of the time, including Livingston Taylor, Melanie, Tom Paxton, Michael Cooney, Dreams (Brecker Brothers), Hall & Oates, and George Thorogood and The Destroyers.
My pursuit of a career in music as a singer-songwriter and studio musician lasted until I was 33 (1985). I recorded and performed under many names including Mark, Mark Ian, The Mark Ian Band, The Bomp Zone, besides my given name Mark Minassian, and recently I Am Winkle. I released my one and only pop rock single in 1975, called "Class of 65" under the name Mark Ian, for Sound Gem Records. It was written by Pal Rakes and Frank Fioravanti. Unfortunately, it never charted. After a hiatus of nearly 30 years I started songwriting and recording again under the name "I Am Winkle" with no intention of a music "career". Freed from having to worry about making a living from music I write and record my songs only for the love of music. As a songwriter the material I write reflects all the pop music influences I grew up with and continue to listen to today (both old and new). It's what I call "Pop for Big Kids". If only one person in the entire world enjoys one of my songs, I consider that a success. So this is my story, actually my continuing story and I hope you enjoy it... Click picture to enlarge.
