Videos: The Bomp Zone
The Bomp Zone was an original pop-rock trio from the Philadelphia area whose short career existed in the early 1980s. The band’s founding members were Mark Minassian (lead guitar and keys) and John Roberts (bass). They were accompanied by several different drummers through the years (Marvin
Farmer, Michael Rudolph, and Steve Parsons).
They played all of the popular venues in the Philadelphia area at the time, including the Ripley Music Hall, J.C. Dobbs, Grendel's Lair, and Bigelow's. They were also regulars at the legendary Joe's Sportsman's Lounge in West Chester, PA, playing alongside many of the up-and-coming local bands of the time, including VHF, The Get Right Band, Billy Freeze & the Extremes, and Dick Tracy, among others. The band also shared a bill with Brave New World and the all-female band Separate Checks during the Ripley’s final days. And in Delaware, they performed at Hockster’s, opening for George Thorogood.
The first three videos below were extracted from an old VCR video tape of a cable TV show on which they appeared called Vibrations on American Cablevision. It has been kept in its original 4:3 aspect ratio with the audio only minimally processed to maintain the authentic vintage feel of a time gone by. The fourth video features audio from a live 1984 performance at Joe's Sportsman's Lounge in West Chester, PA.
A special thank you goes out to Susan Childs, who created the Bomp Zone logo so many years ago.
